1. Use a Blog Content Strategy to Boost SEO

When I talk about content strategy, I want you to think of the big picture.

We’re not just thinking about what you need today or tomorrow—we’re also thinking about what you’re going to need a month from now, a year from now, and even five years from now.

One of the most important parts of a content strategy is your blog strategy.

Blogging for SEO is important for driving more traffic to your site and getting more people interested in what you have to offer, but it can also be a little intimidating if you don’t have experience with SEO writing or if you aren’t sure where to start!

Here’s a few quick tips that can help you increase your eCommerce sales through blogging:

  • Research topics people are searching around your products before wasting time on writing a blog. Your time is limited, so we only want to write blogs around topics people are searching on Google.
  • Longer blogs are ideal (over 2,000 words), however this definitely isn’t always the case. If you research blog topics that aren’t very competitive, you can definitely get away with ranking on shorter blogs.
  • Use keywords throughout your content, but have a single main keyword that you are targeting for each blog. That being said, make sure your content flows naturally so you aren’t just adding keywords for no reason.
  • Break up content with headers, AKA section titles. Your main blog title should be an H1 tag, and your sections should use H2 tags. This will help Google understand what your blog is about and prioritize it in the search.
  • Include a few internal links to another related blog post or your product pages. This will increase the likelihood you will make a sale, as well as increase your site dwell time. Google will reward you in search results for this.
  • Bonus if you can also link to a high traffic outside source (this is great when it comes to sharing content on social). Linking to highly respected websites from your blog is a great SEO strategy.
  • Include sharable images throughout your blog and use applicable alt text on each image to help rank you higher on Google. You can also embed YouTube videos on your blog which also helps your SEO.
  • Set a goal for producing new content on a regular basis. I know it is hard, but if you can hire an SEO specialist to write the blogs for you, it will pay itself back in dividends.

2. Optimize Your Homepage to Increase Conversions

The majority of your traffic is going to land on your website’s homepage. This is why it is critical to evaluate your homepage as the top driver of conversions for your site.

Using affordable heat map tools like Hotjar or Crazy Egg can really help you see how users are using your site and where they are getting frustrated and dropping off. You can use the information you get from these heat map and website recording tools to optimize your homepage for conversions.

Beyond that, here are some quick tips on how you can design your website home page to increase conversions and revenue:

  • Make sure your website hero image is always promoting your best seasonal offers. You should be swapping this image out regularly.
  • The top sections of your website home page should promote your best-sellers, most popular offers, and any new products.
  • Make sure you are making it easy for someone to navigate your various product collections on your home page. This will require styling a collections or categories section that is easy to navigate.
  • Make sure every image on your home page has a clear Call-to-Action (CTA) button on it to “SHOP NOW” or similar.
  • Don’t waste any of your home page on sections like “About Us” or “Blog” unless it will drive revenue for you. If it won’t, you can instead put these page links in your website footer.

The best conversion tip I can give you for your website home page is to ask yourself for every section you have, “Is this section driving purchases by sending someone to a product or collection?”
If the answer is “No”, then it likely can be removed.

3. Optimize Your Landing Pages

Landing pages are pages that you are driving traffic to for a specific purposes, which is usually lead generation or sales.

Some examples of landing pages are pages that promote products, services, lead magnets, or events.

For eCommerce, these can also include your home page, product page, a content commerce blog post designed to generate sales or leads, and your collection pages.

Monitoring the conversion rate on your landing pages is essential because if the page isn’t optimized for conversions, you’re not getting sales from it.

Here are some tips on how you can optimize the landing pages you are sending traffic to for your eCommerce store:

  • Make sure your price and product details are clear and easy to see.
  • Make sure to answer any FAQs that might be preventing users from converting on your site. You can usually find these by reviewing your customer service reports, comments on your social media posts or ads, reviews of your competitors’ products, and DMs on your social social channels.
  • Make sure your most important elements and buttons are high up on your site (above the fold on mobile devices) so that visitors can see them without scrolling down too much.
  • Use scarcity techniques, such as limited quantity and sales, in order to encourage your website visitors to take action sooner rather than later (and save money).
  • Keep your call-to-action buttons straightforward—don’t make users hunt for them or think too hard about what they mean! This means make sure they are bold in color, have clear and simple language, and change color when the mouse hovers over them.
  • Add contact information so that people can get in touch with you if they need help or have questions about how something works or how much something costs. According to Campaign Monitor, “Adding a live chat feature on a website will typically lead to a 20% increase in conversion rates.”

4. Optimize Your eCommerce Product Pages

Making sure your product pages are optimized for sales is important for an eCommerce store.

Here are some tips on how you can increase your online store’s revenue simply by optimizing your product pages:

  • Make sure you have multiple product images from various angles. You can also include lifestyle images and videos if you have those as well.
  • Make sure your “Add to Cart” button is bold in color and changes colors when someone hovers over it.
  • Add a reviews app like Yotpo or Stamped to help increase your conversions rate. In fact, according to TrustPulse, 97% of consumers look at reviews before purchasing and having at least 5 reviews causes the likelihood that someone will purchase to increase by a factor of nearly 4X.
  • Review your product page links and content to make sure everything is optimized for SEO, including your product URL, image alt tags, meta tags, product description, and more.

5. Use Email Marketing to Increase Your Sales

Email marketing is one of the highest ROI marketing channels you can use for your online business.

Some of the best ways to build your email list are through website pop-ups with irresistible offers on them or through various lead generation campaigns.

Once someone opts-in to either a website form or a lead generation campaign, you want to make sure they immediately receive an email with what you promised them.

This email flow, called a Welcome Flow, is one of the most lucrative email sequences you can have.

And the best part? It all happens on automation. This is how you can truly make money while you sleep as an eCommerce store owner.

Klaviyo, the top eCommerce email marketing CRM, has many flow templates already setup for you, which can help you save tons of time setting up your email automation.

6: Use Advanced Filters to Improve UX

Using advanced filters on your website can help your website visitors find the products they are looking for with ease. When we make it easy for website visitors to search our site and find exactly what they are looking for, they are much more likely to make a purchase.

On the other hand, if a website visitor can’t easily filter products on your site by sizes in stock, colors, style, type, price, etc., they may get frustrated and leave your site.

To avoid this, you need to go above and beyond standard filters provided on a website theme and likely invest in apps, plugins, or custom development to create a more advanced filtration process on your website.

Here are some advanced product filters I suggest you consider using on your eCommerce store:

  • Product price range
  • Review rating
  • Brand (if you carry various brands on your eCommerce store)
  • Collection or Category
Style(for example, if the category is shirts, you want a filter that allows someone to further narrow down the selection to short sleeve, long sleeve, tank tops, and similar)
  • Fabric
  • Color
  • Print
  • Size
  • Occasion
  • Allergies, Dietary Restrictions, or Ingredients (for food, beauty, health, and personal care eCommerce stores)
  • Availability (Allow someone to only see what is in-stock

Adding more than just the simple product filters that are included in most eCommerce website themes is crucial to increasing your website sales. I recommend researching various apps and plugins that can help you set up advanced filters on your site.

7. Use Social Media Marketing to Boost Your Sales

Social media marketing is another great tool you can use to increase traffic to your eCommerce website.

Whether you are driving organic or paid traffic from social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, and similar, you are finding another entry point to your website that you can take advantage of.

The more you post videos and images on social media, the more free referral traffic you will get to your website from these channels.

This is why images and videos are vital to your social media success.

For example, using short-form videos with the latest trends, such as IG Reels and TikTok videos, can grow brand awareness faster (and cheaper) than any other marketing method. All it takes is one great video to go viral and put your brand on the map.

You’ll also want to make sure your product catalog is working properly on each social platform so you can easily tag your products in your organic posts.

You can also use influencer marketing on social media to push out your brand. This requires you create a partnership with an influencer who has a large following who can push out your products through their own account.

These are just some ideas on how you can use social media to increase your eCommerce sales. If you want to learn more about social media marketing, check out my best social media growth hacks for eCommerce.

8. Use Multiple Sales Channels to Increase Sales

One of the best things you can do to extend the reach of your eCommerce store, increase traffic, and offer your products on various platforms is to use multiple sales channels on your eCommerce store.

Sales Channels allow you to use a single product feed and inventory management system from your website to push out your products on other websites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Amazon, Pinterest, and more.

For example, you can tag products on your Instagram post or Pinterest Pin so that users on that platform can come back to your site and purchase.

You can also create social media shops on other platforms (sales channels) allowing people to directly checkout through those channels vs. your website. This allows for ease of purchase with one less click over to your website.

9. Use SEO to Increase Your eCommerce Sales

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is designed to increase your organic traffic.

This is a great long-term marketing strategy to help increase your domain authority, quality website traffic, and ultimately decrease your ad costs over time.

Nailing a winning SEO strategy is key to ranking on the first page of Google search results.

Some important SEO techniques include ranking for keywords, link building, content marketing, and URL creation.

Product descriptions for eCommerce stores also are an important piece of an SEO strategy.

Make sure your eCommerce store includes strong product descriptions with keywords people are searching for.

For example, if you’re selling a blue cocktail dress, make sure the title, URL, and description for your product contains the keyword “blue cocktail dress” so that Google will rank it higher in search results.

In your product description, you are going to also want to include details like care instructions, fabric, size charts, brand, and more.

A good rule of thumb to follow is to make sure your product description is answering any FAQs a consumer may have about your product before they are committed to purchasing.

10. Increase Your eCommerce Sales Through Affiliate Marketing

It is no secret that after the iOS 14 privacy updates, Facebook ads lost their effectiveness in generating profitable returns for eCommerce brands.
